Smart Controller C-R200, WC100 Models: Local Network Access on iPhone and iPad

Notes
This change applies only to the WC100 and C-R200 Smart Controller models. It does not change how the app uses personal data, and it does not expand the type of access the app has to your network. The update only adopts Apple’s native local network permission for these models.

The latest app update improves security for certain older Smart Controller models by using Apple’s built-in local network privacy permission on iPhone and iPad.

What changed

When the app needs to communicate with a compatible Smart Controller on your home Wi-Fi network, your iPhone or iPad may prompt you to allow the app to access devices on your local network.

Allowing this permission lets the app keep communicating directly with the Smart Controller over your local network, as it did before for these older models. Denying permission does not stop the app from working over the internet.

What happens if permission is denied

If local network access is not allowed, commands sent from the app will travel through the internet before reaching your blinds. This includes manual controls and scenes. Schedules and integrations are unaffected, as they don’t operate over the local network.

In most homes with low-latency internet, there should be little to no noticeable difference in response time. In areas where internet connections often have higher latency, the delay may be more noticeable before the blinds begin to move. Allowing local network access can help restore faster response times in those situations because the Smart Controller can communicate over the local network again.

How to allow local network access later

If local network access was denied when the app first asked, it can be turned back on in iPhone or iPad settings.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Local Network.
  4. Find the app in the list.
  5. Turn on access for the app.
On some iPhone or iPad versions, the local network option may also appear in the app’s own settings page inside the Settings app.
