Can't Pair My Blinds

Can't Pair My Blinds

Notes
This troubleshooting guide assumes your blinds are working correctly with their original remote control. If you’re having issues pairing a remote control or setting blind limits, please contact the company you purchased the blinds from. If you're unsure who that is, look for any company name on the front/back of the remote control, back or top of the headrail or behind the weight bar at the bottom of the fabric.
Idea
We strongly recommend reading through all the in-app instructions first, locating the necessary buttons, and familiarizing yourself with the steps. You can always restart the process if needed.

Common Pairing Issues from Incorrect Execution of Instructions or Smart Controller Location
  1. I'm using the setup code provided by the dealer of the motorized blind I'm trying to pair.

  2. Blind did not pair after tapping “Send Pair Signal” even though it responded to some steps.

Even if you select the correct setup code and remote control, several factors must be met for a blind to pair successfully. Below are the most common reasons pairing fails, listed from most to least frequent:

1. Instructions must be followed in the correct order, with the required blind motor feedback
The motor inside your blinds will only pair if commands are sent in the programmed sequence within the allowed time window. Pay close attention to instructions like “Wait for the blind to move” or “…until the blind moves.” These indicate that the next step should only happen after blind movement has started and ended.
Examples of correct vs. incorrect execution of instructions
Instruction: Hold the button for 3 seconds, until the blind moves.
❌ Held for roughly 3 seconds by mental count and released the button. The blind didn't move and proceeded to the next step.
✅ Held for roughly 3 seconds by mental count, but blind didn't move so keep holding the button. It seemed to be the 4th second, the blind finally moved, so the button was released. Proceeded to the next step.

Instruction: Press the button once. Wait for the blind to move. Press the same button again. Wait for the blind to move.
❌ Pressed again without waiting for the blind to move.
✅ Waited for the blind to move and stop before continuing.

Instruction: Press the button multiple times, or press more than one button together.
❌ Presses are spaced too far apart, or buttons are not actually pressed together, even if it feels like they are.
✅ Keep presses less than 1 second apart, matching the rhythm shown in the app (if provided). When pressing two buttons together, don’t rely solely on how it feels, confirm by checking if the blind moves before proceeding.

 2. Tap “Send Pair Signal” within the blind motor’s timeout window
Even if the instructions are followed correctly, tapping the “Send Pair Signal” button must be done within the time window allowed by the blind’s motor. Some motors provide more time, while others allow only a few seconds. In the latter case, the in-app instructions will mention this so you are aware. If you think you missed the pairing time window, you can simply restart the process.

3. Blind didn’t do anything after tapping “Send Pair Signal”
If you followed the instructions in the correct order, tapped “Send Pair Signal” within the required time window, and weren't able to pair other blinds successfully, the issue may be range-related. The Smart Controller generally covers up to 3,500 sq ft, but actual coverage depends on factors such as construction materials, house layout, number of floors, and its placement. To maximize signal distribution:
  1. Central placement with good Wi-Fi signal strength and higher elevation within the house help maximize signal distribution.
  2. Do not place the Smart Controller inside metal enclosures/cabinets or on top of Wi-Fi routers, extenders, or modems.
If you need to relocate the Smart Controller while keeping the same Wi-Fi network, simply close the Add Blind process, unplug the Smart Controller, move it to the new location, plug it back in, and wait for it to automatically reconnect. If you are also switching to a different Wi-Fi network, add the Smart Controller again (without deleting it from the app) and enter the new network credentials during the Wi-Fi setup step.

Common Pairing Issues from Incorrect Setup Code, Missing In-App Remote Control, or Unknown Blind Brand

The Smart Controller supports over 20 motor brands, commonly used by a wide range of blind manufacturers. With so many possible combinations and even variations introduced by 433 MHz RF customization, the only way to ensure compatibility is by configuring the correct setup code. This setup code tells the Smart Controller which communication protocol to use and, in some cases, must be selected in combination with a specific remote control model.
  1. My new blinds failed to pair, but the older ones work fine.

  2. My new motorized blinds are from a different store than where I bought the Smart Controller.

In these cases, the issue is most likely that your account is using a different setup code than the one required for your new blinds. Dealers typically provide a setup code with the Smart Controller that matches the motorized blinds they sell, but that setup code may not be a match for the blinds purchased elsewhere. In some instances, even remote controls that look identical may use different communication protocols depending on the manufacturer.

Choosing the correct setup code for your account is essential. To help you try again, we’ve included the most common brand and setup code matches. Brands include dealers and blind manufacturers, whose names can sometimes be found on the front/back of the remote control, back or top of the headrail or behind the weight bar at the bottom of the fabric.

To change the setup code, access Menu> Settings> Change Setup Code. Switching the setup code will not cause blinds to stop working, nor will it affect existing schedules, scenes, or integrations.
